When you’re on holiday abroad with the kids, nothing spells f-u-n like an amusement park. Let’s face it, while adults may enjoy strolling through art galleries and museums for entertainment, children may become easily bored, so a good theme park is the place to go to keep children occupied and smiling. Malta, a small island known for its breathtaking views of the Mediterranean and sandy beaches, has a surprising number of theme parks, including a bio park where you can swim with dolphins, a Playmobil toy park for very young children, a water park and a park where your family can meet Popeye the Sailor. Here’s more information about Malta’s theme parks:
The Mediterraneo Bio Park in Bahar ic-Caghaq has dolphins, sea lions, snakes, tortoises, turtles, frogs, toads, spiders, scorpions, lizards and parrots. There are shows and opportunities to swim with the bottlenose dolphins (and a guide will be there to help). The park is open year-round and admission is â¬15.90 for adults and â¬9.90 for children ages four to twelve. Swimming with the dolphins costs â¬99 to â¬125, depending on if you’re visiting during the low or high seasons. If you prefer to interact with the dolphins (petting or kissing them but not swimming with them) it’ll set you back â¬45 to â¬65 depending on when you go. One important note: The Splash & Fun Water Park is right next door.
The Splash & Fun Water Park is located in Bahar ic-Caghaq adjacent to the Mediterraneo Bio Park. The water park is loaded with several swimming pools, water slides, a wave pool, a lazy river ride and its own Dinosaur Land. The park is open mid-May to mid-October and a full-day admission pass costs â¬20 for adults (ages 13+) and â¬12 for children ages three through 12.
Popeye Village is the site of the film set for the 1980 Popeye movie starring Robin Williams. The village is open all year and is quite the hit with tourists. There’s an amusement park, water trampolines and boat rides for the kids, and adults can enjoy mini golf and free wine tastings. During the Christmas season, Santa’s Toy Town is decorated with holiday lights. Information on packages is available by contacting the park directly.
The Playmobil Fun Park is an actual production plant where you and your family can see toys being made. They offer guided tours and kids get to play in inside and outside play areas before and after the tours. There’s also a shop where you can buy Playmobil toys, including City Life, Rescue Zoo, Police and Fairy Tales. The park is open daily all year and admission is â¬1.20 for adults and â¬2.40 for children ages one to 12.
